Which came first, The Birthday or The Calamity?

Hello Everyone in Blogland,

You wouldn't believe me if I just told you, so, I've taken pictures for proof (of the calamity). The Birthday came first however, so I'll cover that. This is the Birthday Boy! My sister had lunch at her house just for immediate family. Isn't the Birthday Boy so cute? We think we'll keep him. He's such a precious man and father.

It's gift time, yay!

Birthday ice cream sammies... yummo!

On to Sunday night. The members of the church helped my sister and I to host an 80th Birthday Party after the evening church service. The party cake! It tasted so good. It came from the bakery at the little market where I work part-time.

My sister and I put together a presentation board of pics of Dad from when he was about 1 until the day of his 80th birthday.

Some friends and family to make the party complete.

The following picture is of my sister, Becky, and Dad's sister, Evelyn. Aunt Evelyn was my chemo buddy. She's the one that I did my every three weeks chemo treatments with. Even though we had different oncologists, we were able to keep the same schedule for our treatments. Even though it was an unpleasant reason, it was such a blessing to be there for each other, as well as other family members that were able to participate along the way.

And a little silliness along the way. Daddy's girls... and Dad's boys!

All in all a very happy weekend...

And then came Monday... I'll let the pics speak for themselves and give a quick version of the events.

So, here's what happened. The husband is working on kitchen renovations, a large heavy board with a nail in it falls to the floor, the nail punctures a green spray paint can, the paint can spins out of control on the kitchen floor, the husband picks up said can and tries to cover the hole with his hands, the paint is spewing through his fingers, the paint can is thrown out the door. Consequently there is a huge mess everywhere! But, I love him anyhow. However, this might give you some new insight as to why I cringe at the thought of house renovations. :)

Happy Birthday!!!

Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You... Happy Birthday Dear Daddy.... Happy Birthday to you!

Today is my Dad's 80th Birthday. We're having lunch at my sister's today, just some family. Tomorrow evening after the church service my Dad's church family is hosting a light dinner, and my sister and I are doing the cake and ice cream! Hopefully I'll have some half-way decent pics to post.

Looking forward to a very pleasant weekend, celebrating the life of the man who taught me how to love men! He has been a wonderful "earthly" Father who has always pointed me to my "Heavenly" Father... mostly by his example. What a legacy! I'm so thankful for him! God Bless you Daddy!

TGIF... even if I have to go to work tonight...

I see it's been a while since I posted anything. I'm feeling so cheerful right now. My best friend, Mary, is coming tonight for a girls-night-in. I always enjoy the time I get to spend with her. We get to talk about everything from our boys, her relationship, my husband, life in general, extended family, fun things to do, ideas for her kitchen, and most fun, is the conversations we have about our Heavenly Father and how He is working in each of our lives. It's so cool. I'm so thrilled that she is growing and learning and seeing things for her life... and I'm inspired by her desire to want to grow closer to the Lord as well. It's a blessing.

It's been almost 4 years since this picture was taken. I was just recovering from all my cancer treatments and my hair was coming back. We had not been in close contact with each other for a while prior to my cancer. But one thing I learned when I was going through my cancer was to sieze the moment. Mary was going through a difficult time, had just bought herself her very own home, and I was going through cancer. I wasn't sure at the time if I was going to be ok or not... and I just wanted to be the friend God wanted me to be for her, as well as the friend she needed me to be for her. Through those difficult days for both of us, our friendship became something even more precious to us. I love her so much as my friend and sister in Christ. And she's pretty amazing too!

So, I'm blessed this evening to be able to spend more time with her and just be us. I thank the Lord every day for the people He has placed in my life.

Who are you thankful for?

Hugs,
Penny Sue
